Project Overview

Nedbank aimed to enhance the Money app by introducing the Avo Shop feature to provide its 2 million subscribers with the ability to make purchases using Avo and earn Avo points. The feature was designed to generate revenue within the Money app, as Avo itself was not well-known as an e-commerce platform. The project was delivered in three sprints due to technical issues and API sourcing.

1. Discovery Phase

Objectives:

  • Understand the client's vision and product requirements.

  • Define the integration process of the Avo Shop into the Money app.

  • Identify technical challenges related to API sourcing.

  • Establish the scope of the project within the set timeline.

Activities:

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Worked with the BA, EL, and Product Owner to align project goals.

  • User Research: Analyzed user needs and expectations for seamless shopping experiences within the Money app.

  • Requirements Gathering: Prioritized features essential for the successful integration of the Avo Shop.

Key Insights:

  • Technical Dependencies: API sourcing issues required careful planning and adjustments to the project timeline.

  • User Experience: Ensuring a smooth, intuitive shopping experience was critical to user satisfaction.

  • Revenue Generation: The integration needed to be designed in a way that encouraged Avo usage and point accumulation.

2. Design Phase

Design Goals:

  • Provide a seamless, user-friendly shopping experience within the Money app.

  • Ensure consistency with the Money app’s design language while introducing Avo features.

  • Enhance revenue generation by promoting Avo purchases and point accumulation.

Design Solution:

  • User Interface Design: Created an intuitive interface that seamlessly incorporated Avo Shop functionalities into the Money app.

  • Design System Integration: Applied consistent visual elements to maintain brand coherence.

  • Usability Testing: Conducted testing sessions to ensure a smooth user experience.

3. Delivery Phase

Key Features Delivered:

  • Avo Shop Integration: A unified shopping experience within the Money app.

  • Improved Navigation: Streamlined interactions for browsing and purchasing items.

  • Rewards System: Enhanced Avo point accumulation features to encourage frequent use.

  • Responsive Design: Ensured compatibility across various devices.

4. Impact

The integration of the Avo Shop feature successfully provided Nedbank’s Money app users with:

  • A convenient way to shop and earn points within the app.

  • Improved user engagement and satisfaction.

  • A potential new revenue stream for Nedbank through Avo purchases.

5. Lessons Learned
